Hungarian weekly Magyar Narancs has taken a look at the arsenal of weapons available for use by the Parliamentary Guard if the building ever needs to be defended.
The 400-person strong Parliamentary Guard was authorized in 2017 to use high-firepower weapons due to the increased threat of terrorism, but has also stocked up on devices such as the powerful Taser X26 shocker.
According to a document from the summer detailing the coercive tools at its disposal, these include an Accuracy AT 308 sniper rifle that can hit targets with high accuracy of up to 800 meters away, as well as two versions of Heckler & Koch’s MP5 submachine gun. Another weapon the Guard has acquired is a grenade launcher.
Authorities did not provide information on the value of these weapons to Magyar Naracs, although the weekly did speculate on how much they may have cost.
