Karácsony Invites Union Leaders for Talks on Vaccinating Workers

Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony invited trade union leaders to City Hall to discuss whether vaccination should be compulsory for their workers, the mayor stated on social media.

A week ago, Minister Gergely Gulyás announced at a Government Information session that companies will have the power to decide on making the coronavirus vaccine mandatory for their workers or not.

“The Hungarian government took action without informing us beforehand. We have no official data, and they have not been treating us as a partner since the start of this,” Karácsony wrote on Facebook. The mayor believes that the government pushed its responsibility for vaccination on to employers and local municipalities.

Mayor Karácsony stated that union leaders had been called in to City Hall for consultations and to have their opinions on the issue heard by the municipality.
