At the opening session of the new National Assembly today, the body chose its key leaders for this parliamentary term. László Kövér was chosen once again as parliamentary speaker, a post he has held since 2010.
Parliamentary groups were formed for the nine parties in Hungary’s legislative body: Fidesz, KDNP, DK, Jobbik, Momentum, MSZP, Dialogue, Our Homeland, and LMP. Each group chose its own leader, all of which were men.
In addition, the heads of 16 parliamentary committees were chosen, which again were all uniformly male.
Only 14% of the 198 MPs in the new Hungarian Parliament are women. [444]
