The 27th Budapest Pride March was held on Saturday, with several thousand people departing from the Pest embankment at 3:00pm. The procession passed by Parliament in Kossuth Square, ending up at Freedom Square.
The Our Homeland movement had officially reserved Andrássy Avenue and several public squares in Budapest to keep the Pride marchers from using them, but the far-right party didn’t actually hold any events in these places.
However, a few dozen counter-demonstrators on Margit Island called out to the marchers on the other side of the Danube with vulgar epithets. They also hung a banner reading “Stop LMBTQ Pedophilia” on Margit Bridge.
The Pride demonstration featured several speeches, and a representative from Kyiv Pride dressed in yellow and blue asked everyone to help Ukraine in the war northeast of Hungary.
A counter-protester also entered Freedom Square, but was escorted out by police. [Telex]
