The political opposition in Parliament has filed charges against Speaker László Kövér (pictured) over the unauthorized gathering of classified information and the unauthorized use of a hidden device, announced MP Tímea Szabó on Tuesday.
The Párbeszéd representative recalled how the Speaker had spoken to senior intelligence officials in early 2020 about his belief that the opposition posed the greatest threat to national security in Hungary.
Kövér also said, according to the leaked audio recording, that he expected intelligence agencies to deal with this “risk,” although he did not specify any particular act for them to take. His speech was revealed in a report published this past weekend by investigative outlet Direkt36.
Kövér practically urged the national security officials there to disrupt the constitutional order and abolish the multi-party system, said Szabó. Given that they were being monitored by intelligence agencies, they are filing charges over the unauthorized gathering of classified information and the unauthorized use of a hidden device. Tímea Szabó also quoted from the section in the Penal Code on incitement in her press conference.
In addition, the Párbeszéd MP claimed that Lászó Kövér had classified millions of people as a national security threat, while Fidesz is employing illegal means to win next year’s Parliamentary elections.
