Government Wants to Buy Budapest Airport for 4.44 Billion Euros

According to 24.hu, the Hungarian government is willing to pay 4.44 billion Euros for Budapest Airport, an investment that that the government believes will pay for itself in 15 years.

Experts told 24.hu that this is a very ambitious plan, as the airport will need numerous upgrades and investments. For example, higher traffic through the airport will require a new terminal, which will also require developing a new parking lot, hotels, and cargo facilities.

At the moment, it is not clear whether taxpayers will cover the entire purchase price, as there may be possible commercial partners in the venture as well, such as national oil and gas company MOL Nyrt.
