In an interview with Mandiner, State Secretary for Health Péter Takács stated that the government had some scope to raise the salaries of health care workers.
In reference to this, Népszava asked Chancellor Minister Gergely Gulyás how much leeway the State Secretary had received from Finance Minister Mihály Varga for wage raises.
But Gulyás told the Hungarian daily that further salary increases for teachers and health care workers were dependent on whether Hungary receives its expected money from the EU recovery fund in the fall.
He noted that the government’s goal was to keep increasing wages, but as long as Hungary has to struggle with the war in Ukraine and skyrocketing energy prices, any talk about raising wages in the health care sector is a “mistake.” [Népszava]
