Péter Márki-Zay appeared in a live video on Facebook, naked from the waist up, lying on a hospital bed with his hand in a plaster cast.
At noon on Sunday, it was revealed that the opposition’s joint prime ministerial candidate had broken his left hand at an outing at the beach with his family and needed to undergo surgery. The politician said that he had broken two of his bones when he slipped and fell on his hands with his full weight. A titanium plate was also inserted into his arm during the operation.
[Right-wing influencer] Philip Rákay is going to make a great video of what kind of Robocop or Terminator I’ve now become.
-the politician joked.
He reassured his supporters that he would be released soon and that the campaign would continue.
Beyond his personal issues, Márki-Zay mentioned the leaked 444 public opinion poll that showed Fidesz had a clear lead, saying they didn’t even call it “research,” and that the case “strongly raised the suspicion that the enemy’s hand had also set foot in our headquarters.” He claimed that the poll had no basis, and that the entire story was invented by Fidesz.
“I want to reassure everyone that the opposition is not in a bad place. Fidesz’s standing is certainly bad though,” he said. His assessment of the ruling party is evidenced by the fact that the government has begun spending money in an unprecendented way over the past 12 years, from raises in the minimum wage and in civil servant salaries, providing a “thirteenth” month pension benefit, and similar provisions.
According to the mayor of Hódmezővásárhely, Fidesz has also made decisions that should have been made by the next government, which is further evidence that they are worried about losing. These include awarding casino concessions, appointing a new president of the Media Council, and making Prosecutor General Péter Polt harder to remove.
All these actions clearly show that Viktor Orbán is afraid. Viktor Orbán is packing up. He’s afraid of losing, so he’s stealing what he still can and insuring what is still possible.
-claimed Péter Márki-Zay.
In addition, the prime ministerial candidate also said that Viktor Orbán will activate “opposition traitors,” or those nominally in the opposition coalition “who will show dissatisfaction, talk about changing candidates either in an electoral district or for prime minister, or in whatever respect, only act in the interests of Fidesz.”
