Gov’t Decree: Price of Electricity Won’t Increase Before Elections

The government has changed the date when it will consider the annual review of the price of electric power, according to the Official Gazette on Monday evening.

“According to the decree signed by Viktor Orbán, the retail price of electricity will not be reviewed next year until July 1, 2022. This means that for the period from January 1 to June 30, 2022, the system usage fees in force on December 31, 2021 will apply.”

In other words, the cost of electricity for consumers will remain the same until at least July 2022. The cabinet claims that the emergency situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic as the reason why it won’t consider changing prices until then.
