Former Hungarian National Bank Vice-Governor Júlia Király has resigned from the executive directorate at KBC Bank, the Belgian owner of Hungary’s K&H Bank, over her support for united opposition leader Péter Márki-Zay.
Király’s resignation was prompted by a “threatening message” from the Hungarian government after she spoke at an event to announce her support for Márki-Zay prior to the second round of the primary elections.
The economist had informed the bank in advance of her intentions to support the democratic leader, that she would be speaking and appearing as a private citizen, and was not seeking any political role. [HVG]
